A video is being widely shared on social media in which police personnel are seen beating a man in a police station.

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows the atrocities of the Karnataka police against a crime accused.

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by the UP Tak YouTube channel on August 24.

The video is shared with a caption that reads, “Take a look at this video. In it, a policeman is seen holding a man by his arm against a pillar, while Station In-charge Vinod Mishra, wielding his authority in uniform, lashes him with a belt nine times in just four seconds. As the young man was being beaten, another individual was also present there, helping the officer in his actions.” (Translated from Hindi)

Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the same video was shared by Amar Ujala on April 24.

According to the report, a shocking video from Jaunpur in UP showed SHO Vinod Mishra beating a man tied to a pillar, delivering nine lashes in four seconds while another person helps restrain the victim. The report said that it was over a dispute of Rs 26,000.

The incident was also reported by India TV on April 24.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
