On November 2, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to win the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which people are seen celebrating on the street. They are dancing, and some are also raising the Indian national flag.

The video is being shared with a caption suggesting that it is of Indians celebrating the victory of the Indian women’s cricket team in the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “The streets of Mumbai erupted in joy as India lifted the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 trophy. From Marine Drive to Bandra, fans waved flags, burst crackers, and chanted “India! India!” in celebration of the team’s historic triumph. The victory has not only filled the nation with pride but also inspired countless young girls to dream big and believe in their power.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. The viral video is old and from Kolhapur.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page on June 30, 2024. The video is shared with a caption that reads, "THE CRAZE IN KOLHAPUR, MAHARASHTRA FOR INDIA'S WORLD CUP WIN. #T20WorldCup2024"

Thus, one thing is for sure, the viral video is old and not from the recent Indian women’s cricket team victory.

We further found a clear video of the same event on Instagram. The video was shared on June 30, 2024. The text embedded on the video reads, “India wins match, in Kolhapur, Shivaji Chowk.” The post also has a clear view of a board that reads, “Malkar Sweet Mart.”

Taking a hint, we searched and found the location of Malkar Sweet Mart on Google Maps. We further compared the location in the video with the one present on Google Maps and found them to be the same.

This confirmed that the viral visual is from Kolhapur, not Mumbai.

On July 29, 2024, the Indian men’s cricket team beat South Africa by seven runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
