A video showing a group of men offering namaz inside a legislative chamber has gone viral on social media, with users claiming it shows Muslim MPs praying inside Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset. The footage has been shared widely on social media amid the political uncertainty in Israel following the recent elections.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “The sound of prayer echoed through the Israeli Parliament! Muslim lawmakers performed prayer together in the main chamber of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset). This scene has become a topic of discussion on social media. Politics aside, taking time for prayer within the Parliament is also a beautiful example.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Jordan.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by BBC Arabic on November 4, with a caption that reads, “Prayer under the dome of the Jordanian parliament sparks mixed reactions.”
We further found that another news website, Alsaa News, published a story on November 3.
In the video, we can see a screenshot of the viral video, and it is shared with a caption that reads, “Members of Parliament performed the noon prayer on Tuesday under the dome of Parliament, ahead of the session scheduled for today to complete the elections of the Standing Committee. The deputy, Dr Ahmed Al-Raqab, led the prayers.”
Using this information, we searched for Dr Ahmed Al-Raqab and found that he is an MP in the Jordanian Parliament.
