The claim is false. The video is edited.

A 25-second video of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has gone viral on social media in which he is allegedly heard saying, “When war broke out between India and Pakistan, I called Modi and told him to stop within 24 hours.”

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that Rahul Gandhi supported Pakistan amid the recent clashes between India and Pakistan. The post refers to a war-like situation that escalated between India and Pakistan after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam in April 2025.

In the aftermath, India launched Operation Sindoor, diplomatic ties unravelled, the Indus Waters Treaty, trade, visas, and airspace access were all suspended, until a ceasefire on May 10 brought a fragile pause.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, "Rahul Gandhi, in a public speech, said: “During the India-Pakistan war, I called Narendra Modiji on the phone and told him, ‘Whatever you are doing, stop it within 24 hours.’ But he stopped it in just 5 hours. Wow, wars end because of Rahul’s strategy.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video has been edited.

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found the full-length video shared by the official YouTube channel of the Indian National Congress on August 27.

The video was shared with a caption suggesting that the video was from a rally in Bihar. At around the 17:25-minute mark, you can hear Rahul saying, “Trump said that when the war was going on between India and Pakistan, I called and said to Narendra Modi, listen, whatever you are doing, stop it in 24 hours and PM Modi stopped it in 5 hours. But the media will not tell you this.”

The video was also shared by ANI on August 27.

One minute into the video, you can hear Rahul Gandhi making the same claim as the viral one.

The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Addressing during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi says, “Trump said today that when the war between India and Pakistan was going on, I picked up the phone and told Narendra Modi and told him to stop whatever he was doing within 24 hours. And Narendra Modi stopped everything in five hours, not 24 hours... The media belongs to Narendra Modi, Ambani and Adani. The media is not of Tejashwi or Stalin, tribals, Dalits or Backward classes. Among Adani, Ambani, Tata and Birla, tell me who is Dalit, tribal or backwards... Look at the judiciary also. There are no tribals, Dalits or backwards... Give me the list of owners of private hospitals, educational institutions, universities and colleges, you will not get any Dalit there... 90% of the people are not included. They steal votes because they know that the day your voice will be heard, India will change completely. That is why I told Narendra Modi face-to-face that the caste census will happen in India and the truth will come out...”

Hindustan Times also reported on Rahul Gandhi’s speech on August 27.

Hence, we can ascertain that the claim is false.
