Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9, after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. He became the first BJP Chief Minister in the state’s history.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which a woman wearing burkha is seen throwing something inside the Parliament. Later brawl erupts as a result between two women when others come to the rescue.

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that a Muslim MP threw shoes at Suvendu Adhikari in the West Bengal Assembly for disrespecting Muslims.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Muslim MP throws shoe at Suvendu Adhikari.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video shows an incident that happened inside Afghanistan’s Parliament in 2011.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a YouTube channel on July 7, 2011. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Associated Press: ‘A third MP speaking on condition of anonymity told me, the pair rowed over the reputation of vice-president Marshal Kasim Fahim.’ Ahmadzai allegedly questioned why the popular strongman could not be criticised, to which Zaki replied: ‘It’s not your business to talk about him (Fahim)!!’ before starting the physical fight.”

We further found that a screenshot of the video was also shared by BBC on July 6, 2011. The report associated with the screenshot stated that 10 Afghan lawmakers boycotted Parliament after a physical fight between MPs Nazifa Zaki and Hamida Ahmadzai during a heated debate on Pakistani rocket attacks into Afghanistan. The clash began over demands to summon senior officials and escalated into shoe-throwing and punches. Speaker Abdul Rauf Rahimi condemned the incident, while videos of the brawl spread widely online.

Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was also reported by NDTV on July 6, 2011.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
