The crisis intensified dramatically on February 28 when coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes hit multiple targets in Iran, including military sites and leadership, triggering widespread retaliation.

Since then, Iran has launched missiles and drones at Israel and US bases across the Gulf, while Israel has expanded strikes into Iran and Lebanon. Hundreds have died and the conflict is spreading regionally, drawing global concern.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which many buildings are seen collapsing into rubble.

Social media users shared the video with a caption suggesting that it shows the current situation of Tel Aviv after Iran launched missiles at Israel.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Iran retaliates. Tel Aviv has just become a ghost town. See the scale of the destruction.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found the claim to be false. We found that the viral video is of the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Dailu Sabah on February 6, 2023. The video is shared with a caption that reads, “Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 occurred in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, destroying buildings, killing dozens and injuring hundreds.”

We found that the screenshot of the same video was also shared by The Wire on February 7, 2023. The report associated with the video suggests that in the February 6, 2023, Turkey–Syria earthquake, satellite data was crucial for coordinating rescue efforts. High-resolution optical and radar images helped map damage, assess road and building conditions, and locate open spaces where displaced people gathered. This information guided the delivery of aid like water and food and improved coordination among humanitarian teams trying to reach survivors under rubble.

The incident was also reported by Al Jazeera on March 3. According to the report, the Iran–Israel war sharply escalated on February 28, after US and Israeli strikes inside Iran. By March 4, both sides kept exchanging air, missile and drone attacks. Iranian missiles triggered air-raid alerts in Israel while Israeli forces hit targets across Iran. Retaliatory strikes spread into the Gulf and Lebanon, widening the conflict regionally with mounting casualties.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
