West Bengal’s new BJP-led government has launched a ‘Detect, Delete, Deport’ policy targeting alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Under the policy, authorities are identifying suspected undocumented migrants, removing their names from official records, and initiating deportation proceedings. The government has also ordered the creation of district-level holding centres to house detainees awaiting repatriation and is coordinating with the BSF to strengthen border enforcement. Supporters say the move will curb illegal infiltration, while critics have raised concerns about due process and possible targeting of minorities.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which some people are seen crossing border gate.
The video is shared with a claim that it shows a large crowd of Bangladeshi nationals rushing into India as soon as a border gate was opened.
A social media user shared the clip with the caption, “As soon as the border gate opened, infiltrators rushed to escape into India.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video shows visitors watching the joint BGB-BSF parade organised at the Benapole border in Jessore in Bangladesh.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Press TV, a Bangladeshi website on May 30, with a caption that reads, “Hurohuri as soon as the border gate is opened! Visitors busy reaching the border by running!”
We further found that Press TV had also shared other posts related to the event on May 31. The post has multiple images from the incident and is shared with a caption that reads, “Thousands of visitors at Benapole Border! Overflowing crowd at Benapole border today to watch the border parade of two countries. No space in the gallery, just people and people! Thousands of visitors rushed from far and distance to watch the attractive border parade of BGB and BSF members. Festive atmosphere created across the border.”
The bio section of the Facebook page suggetss that it gives news about Benapole border. We found that the page shares content around Benapole border.
Moreover, we found that another Facebook user had also posted the video from the other side of Benapole border with a caption that reads, “Hundreds of people entering to watch BGB & BSF parade ceremony at Benapole border India Bangladesh zero line!”
We further found that the video was also shared by YouTube vlogger Richard Collett. In the video, at the 9:24 timestamp, we can see the same scene in the viral video. We can see murals of Mujibur Rahman and Rabindranath Tagore on the walls, which are also visible in the viral video.
We can also see that the video was shared with a caption that suggested that it was of a daily border-closing ceremony at the India-Bangladesh frontier, often called the ‘Wagah of the East’.
It describes the event as a mix of military pageantry, nationalism, and spectacle, while also highlighting the complex realities of border communities whose lives, identities, and relationships are shaped by a heavily guarded yet deeply interconnected frontier.
Therefore, a video of a crowd of visitors at a BGB-BSF parade at the Benapole border has been circulating, claiming to show infiltrators from Bangladesh entering India through the border, which is false.
