At a big TVK public meeting in Vijayamangalam near Erode on December 18, party chief Vijay, in his first major rally in Tamil Nadu since the deadly Karur stampede, slammed the ruling DMK as an ‘evil force’ and cast TVK as a ‘pure’ alternative ahead of the 2026 assembly polls, drawing strong turnout and media attention.
In the above context, an image of a billboard is being widely shared on social media, in which we can see a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party poster, in which the left shows the picture of actor-politician Vijay and the right we have image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Social media users are sharing the image with a caption insinuating that Vijay is in support of BJP.
A social media user shared the image with a caption that reads, “In the first conference: Periyar, Ambedkar, Kamarajar, Velunachiyar, Anjalai Ammal. In the 2nd conference: Anna, MGR. When Sengottaiyan came, Jayalalitha. Now they’ve correctly put the owner on the banner.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral image is edited and altered. In the original image, former Minister Sengottaiyan’s image is in place of PM Modi.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that a video was shared by Polimer News on December 17.
In the video, at around 0:34 seconds, we can see the visual of the billboard. The caption reads, “Final stage work in full swing as general meeting is being held!”)
We compared the visual of the billboard in the viral image with the one visible in the Polimer News. We found them to be similar. Vijay is seen in the left with folded hands. Also, photos of other politicians are the same. However, in the original billboard, the photo of former Minister Sengottaiyan is there instead of PM Modi.
We further found that the video of the preparation of the rally was also shared by V Sathyabama, a former MP, on December 17, with a caption that reads, “Tomorrow is the day when Victory Leader Thalapathy will create history in the Kongu region. Erode welcomes you with love.”
In the video shared by V Sathyabama, we can see a similar billboard to the one shared by the viral post. However, even in this post, we can see that the post has an image of former Minister Sengottaiyan and not PM Modi.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
