A video is being widely shared on social media in which a large group of people are seen carrying wooden spears.

Those sharing the video claim it shows Bangladeshis carrying spears to attack police in Assam.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Illegal Bangladeshis have armed themselves with homemade spears to launch a violent attack on officials and police in Goalpara, Assam.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from Bangladesh and not connected to India.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page, Jago News 24, on July 1, with a caption that reads, “40 killed, looted, burnt in clash between two BNP groups | Kishoreganj.” We can see the viral clip in the video at around 1:24 seconds.

We found that the same video was also shared by Channel i News on July 1.

The video was shared with the description that reads, “At least 40 people were injured in a bloody clash between two factions of the BNP in Ashtagram, Kishoreganj. The violent incident took place on Tuesday morning in Abdullahpur village of Khairpur-Abdullapur union of the upazila. There were allegations of vandalism, looting and arson during the clash. According to local sources, there was a long-standing family and political dispute between Union BNP President Kamal Pasha and District Volunteer Party Joint Convener Farhad Ahmed. This old conflict turned into violence.”

Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found that the incident was also reported by a Bangladeshi news website, Kalbela, on July 1.

According to the report, in Kishoreganj’s Ashtagram, longstanding political and familial rivalries between two BNP factions erupted into violent clashes on July 1. At least 40 people were injured, and the conflict involved stone‑throwing, looting, arson and property damage. Local police eventually intervened and restored order.

We found that the same incident was also reported by the Dhaka Mail on July 1. A screenshot of the video was published along with the report.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
