Amid the ongoing State Assembly elections in Bihar, with the first phase of polling held on November 6 and the final phase scheduled for November 11, a video is widely being shared in which people are seen wearing skull caps, saffron shawls and holding placards with the lotus symbol while chanting slogans in a rally.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Muslims in Bihar rallying to vote for the BJP.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “This is the campaign done for #BJP by only 1000 #Islamis from 10 Jamaats in Bihar. Don’t vote for Modi, the BJP will come.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. The viral video is from Tripura.
On a Google reverse image search, we found the video on a Facebook page with a caption that reads, “Muslim brothers are also saying that BJP is back.” The hashtags associated with it suggested that the video was from Tripura and from 2024. The hashtags read, ‘#loksabhaelection2024 #ApKiBar400Par #bjptripura #Vote4BJP’
We further found that the same video was shared by a YouTube channel, Tripurainfoway TIWN, on April 4, 2024. The caption associated with the post read, “Muslim brothers said, Biplab Dev has come ‘again’ — BJP raised slogan in BJP rally in Bishalgarh. TIWN Video April 4, 2024.”
Using this information, we searched with appropriate keywords and found that the incident was also reported by the website of Tripura State News on April 4, 2024.
According to the report, “A massive roadshow was held at Bishalgarh on 4 April 2024 for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections at the Tripura West constituency, featuring Biplab Kumar Deb (BJP candidate), party activists and women and youth supporters from allied groups.”
In this report, we can also see an image where Muslims are seen attending the BJP rally by donning a saffron shawl.
