A video is being widely shared on social media in which some people are seen wearing green jerseys and celebrating in front of the office of the Indian Union Muslim League. The video is shared with a caption claiming that the people are wearing Pakistani cricket jerseys in Kasargod.
A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Not in Islamabad, Not in Peshawar!! In Kasargod, Kerala, Peaceful people are celebrating the opening of the Muslim League office by wearing Pakistan’s cricket team jerseys.! (sic)”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. We found that the people seen in the video are wearing a jersey of the Indian Union Muslim League Arangadi.
On closely observing the video, we can see that the jerseys had Arangadi printed on them. Arangadi is a village in the Kasaragod district in Kerala.
Taking a clue, we searched for the social media account of the Indian Union Muslim League Arangadi and found that the same video was published on their Facebook page on June 29, 2024.
We also looked for other visuals and found people wearing the same jersey with Arangadi written on the front and IUML written on the left sleeve. Moreover, we can also see a crescent moon on the jersey.
We also compared the jersey with Pakistan’s jersey and found no resemblance between them apart from the green shade.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is of people wearing IUML jerseys and not Pakistani cricket jerseys.
