A video is widely being shared on social media in which a man is seen pointing a gun at a burkha-clad woman in the middle of the street. The video is shared with a caption claiming that it shows a Hindu man pointing a gun at a Muslim woman in Uttar Pradesh.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Alleged firing by bullies at Muslim woman while brandishing a pistol in broad daylight, Prayagraj: Incident from Jhunsi Police Station Area under Gangapar, Sameepur Malava Khurd Village!!”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is of a land dispute between two people of the same community and there is no communal angle to it.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “We observed that the DCP City Prayagraj had replied on one of the viral tweets and debunked the claim. The police tweeted, "In the aforementioned case, a dispute arose on 18.05.2026 between both parties regarding the transaction of money given for the purchase of land. Based on the written complaint submitted by the aggrieved party at Jhunsi police station, a case has been registered, and 02 accused persons have been arrested. Further legal proceedings are underway.”
This suggests that the viral video has no communal angle to it.
We further found that the screenshot of the video was also shared by a website, Ojasvi Kiran, on May 18. According to the report, a firing incident over a money dispute created panic in the Jhunsi area on Monday evening. Sonu Ahmad allegedly opened fire twice during an argument with Amina and her son Asad over a failed land deal worth Rs 11 lakh. Asad suffered minor pellet injuries to his thigh. Police raided the accused’s house, but he escaped. Women from the family were taken for questioning.
The video was also shared by Dainik Bhaskar with a report that read, a youth was injured in a firing incident in Prayagraj’s Jhunsi area after a dispute over a land deal turned violent near Ecipur crossing. The clash reportedly began over pending payment and failed property registration. During the altercation, a man opened fire, injuring another in the thigh. Police launched an investigation, while the main accused remains absconding.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
