A video is being widely shared on social media in which former US President Joe Biden is seen serving Thanksgiving dinner to underprivileged people.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Biden serving dinner to people after undergoing cancer treatment.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “President Joe Biden out serving Thanksgiving dinner to those in need even after having treatment for his prostate cancer. Then you have Trump, who is insulting anyone he can while threatening the people of this country and wasting the taxpayers' money.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and shows him serving Thanksgiving dinner to US military families.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by CBS News on its Instagram page on November 22, 2023. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “US Military families got to have a Thanksgiving dinner together at a base in Virginia ahead of the holiday – and some were able to snap selfies with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, who were serving food.”
The incident was also reported by Voice of America on November 19, 2023.
According to the report, Joe Biden and Jill Biden kicked off the US Thanksgiving week by serving an early “Friendsgiving” dinner to service members and their families at Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia. They also hosted an advance screening of Wonka and called the military the “backbone” of the country, while helping dish out traditional holiday fare, including turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and sweet-potato casserole.
Moreover, we found a report by the BBC published on May 19, 2025. According to the report, Joe Biden, 82, was diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and was shot before Biden was diagnosed with cancer.
