Two images of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi have gone viral. One image allegedly has Stalin holding PM Modi’s hands, and the other has him bowing to the PM.
A social media user shared the images and mentioned the location where the photos were allegedly shot as ‘Niti Aayog meeting’.
SouthCheck found that claim to be false. The viral image is AI-generated.
We could not find the images on social media, even after an image search and analysis of news websites.
However, when we searched with relevant keywords, we found multiple reports of MK Stalin meeting PM Modi during NITI Aayog meeting. The meeting was held on May 26, 2025.
We also found that the image of Stalin meeting PM Modi was shared on his Instagram account too on May 24, 2025, with a caption that reads, “During the #NITIAayog meeting, met our Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi and submitted a memorandum detailing key priorities for Tamil Nadu’s development and social justice:
Approval for Coimbatore & Madurai #Metro
Transfer of Chennai #MRTS to @chennaimetrorail
Upgrade NH32 (Chengalpattu–Tindivanam) to 6/8 lanes
Expansion of Coimbatore & Madurai Airports
Establishment of an #AIIMS in Coimbatore
Release of funds under #SSA
Change in nomenclature of certain communities in SC/ST List (‘N’/‘A’ to ‘R’)
Inclusion of SC-converted Christians in SC list
Safeguarding fishermen’s rights & expediting release of detainees
We hope the Hon’ble Prime Minister will consider these proposals with due urgency, in the true spirit of cooperative federalism.”
However, in none of the pictures can we see Stalin bowing in front of PM Modi.
Moreover, we also saw a video shared by Money Control on May 24, 2025.
In the video, we can see Stalin meeting Modi during the NITI Aayog meet. However, the video does not show him bowing in front of PM Modi. The video is shared with a caption that reads, “#WATCH | From MK Stalin to Revanth Reddy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets INDIA Bloc CMs At NITI Meet. #NarendraModi #NITIAayog #MKStalin #RevanthReddy #HemantSoren”
We found that the report of the event was also shared by Money Control on May 24, 2025. According to the report, at a Niti Aayog meeting in New Delhi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin urged the Union government to increase states’ share of Central taxes to 50 per cent (from the 33.16 per cent currently received) and release Rs 2,200 crore in overdue education funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme. He also pushed for urban renewal and river cleaning projects.
The lack of images on mainstream news outlets hinted that the images had been artificially generated.
Therefore, we checked the images for AI discrepancies.
Image 1
In the first image, we can see that the smile of PM Modi is uneven, which is similar to the smile generated by AI-tools. Moreover, the face of MK Stalin looks a bit longer than his usual face.
Thus, we checked with an AI-detection tool and found that the viral video is AI-generated.
Image 2
We found that the viral image shows PM Modi’s smile is out of proportion, thus suggesting that the viral image might be AI-generated. We checked with an AI detection tool and found the image to be AI-generated.
Hence, the claim is false.
