 A video is being widely shared on social media in which a person’s leg is tied and she is being burned by some people.

The video is shared with a caption claiming that it is from West Bengal, Murshidabad. It further claims that the girl was a Hindu and in love with a Muslim man. Once, the man realised her religion, he burned her.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “This incident took place in Shamsherganj, Murshidabad. The boy’s name is Abbas Sheikh and the girl’s name is Tania Haldar. In the end, he burned the girl to death.” (Translated from Bangla)

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from Mexico.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video was shared by a website, Documenting Reality, on May 5, 2023. A close-up of the video was also shared on the same link, which proved that the video is old. The caption associated with the video read, “Members Of CDN Set Rival Ablaze.”

The same video was also uploaded by another website.

We further found that the incident was also reported by the Daily Star on May 6, 2023. The report shared screenshots of the viral video and stated it shows Gulf Cartel hitmen from Grupo Escorpión burning a naked man alive, allegedly a rival from Los Zetas Vieja Escuela, amid brutal cartel violence in Mexico.

While we could not find more details about the incident, we knew that the viral video is old and is from Mexico.
