On February 25, Iran’s foreign ministry slammed US President Donald Trump’s claims about Tehran ahead of Geneva nuclear talks, accusing the US and Israel of spreading ‘big lies’ using Goebbels-style propaganda methods.
Iran dismissed allegations about its nuclear and missile programs and protest deaths, saying repeated falsehoods don’t make them true, and warned Washington to choose diplomacy or face consequences.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seen running. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Netanyahu running to a shelter in anticipation of an Iranian attack.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “BREAKING: Netanyahu is now RUNNING to his rat shelter. He says: ‘Iran will attack us any minute now.’”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video shows Netanyahu running inside the Knesset building in 2021.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Benjamin Netanyahu on his official X account on December 14, 2021.
The video was shared with the caption, “I am always proud to run for you. Filmed half an hour ago in the Knesset.”
We found that the same video was also shared by an Israeli News Website Inn.co.il. on December 13, 2021. According to the report, Netanyahu was then the head of the Opposition, and he ran from his Knesset office to arrive in time for the voting in the Plenum.
The video was shared by another Israeli media organisation on December 14, 2021.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
What is Israel’s response to Iran?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in the Knesset that if Iran were to attack Israel, it would be ‘perhaps the most serious mistake in its history,’ and vowed a powerful response. He emphasised Israel’s strength and close ties with the United States, saying the country is prepared for any scenario amid rising tensions.
