A video is being widely shared on social media in which we can see a crowd at a Delhi Metro station shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government. The footage shows commuters and protesters in what appears to be a tense atmosphere.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it was filmed on August 15 at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station while PM Modi was delivering his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort. The video claims to show a stark contrast between the official celebrations and public dissent and suggests that people were asking for the resignation of PM Modi on Independence Day.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “On one hand, PM Narendra Modi was delivering a speech from the Red Fort. On the other, people at Delhi Metro Station were protesting against Modi and demanding his resignation. Modiji’s good days are over now!” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video was from July 2026, showing the CJP protests.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by an X account on July 20. The text embedded on the video suggests that it was from Rajiv Chowk metro station.
Since the X video and the YouTube video went online before August 15, we can ascertain that the viral video is old.
Using this information, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was also reported by Times Now on July 20, with a caption that reads, “CJP Protest: Dramatic Rajiv Chowk Metro Scenes As Protesters Roar In Heart Of Delhi Connaught Place.”
The incident was also shared by the Times of India on July 20.
According to the report, Delhi Metro shut five central stations on July 20 amid security concerns over the CJP’s proposed Parliament march, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded. Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth were closed. Confusion spread as passengers faced locked gates, while some climbed barricades to exit. Many commuters were forced to walk or find alternative transport.
We also did not find any news reports about a protest at a Delhi Metro station on Independence Day.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
The CJP protests
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) had begun a sit-in protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 20, 2026, demanding the resignation of then-Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over examination irregularities. The protest continued until July 25, when Pradhan resigned and the government assured action on examination reforms.
