Fact Check: Rescue operation during Delhi’s Malviya Nagar hotel fire goes viral? No, video is from the Philippines

False. The viral video is from the Philippines and dates to December 2025.

A tragic fire at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on June 3 claimed at least 21 lives.

In the wake of this devastating incident, a video showing a dramatic rescue from a burning building has gone viral on social media. The clip shows a woman being helped down a ladder from a balcony. 

The video is being shared with the claim that it shows a rescue operation from the Malviya Nagar fire.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “God sends his angels to those whom He wishes to save.... Thanks to the Savior....” (Translated from Hindi)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from the Philippines and dates to December 2025.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Channel News Asia on December 12, 2025.

The video is shared with a caption that reads, “A woman has been hailed as a hero for rescuing two dogs from a burning building in the Philippines’ Mandaue city on Wednesday (Dec 10). Local media said the woman - who has been praised for her apparently calm demeanour and cool presence of mind - got off with minor injuries.”

We found that the same video was also shared by the YouTube channel, ABS-CBN News on December 10, 2025. 

The description reads, “A woman who was rescued from a burning building in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City on Wednesday morning is making rounds on social media for rescuing her dogs first before making it to safety. In a video uploaded by Ivy Baya, the dogs were held by the woman, then thrown to the responders to be rescued before she got down off the building. She sustained minor injuries. The fire was raised to the second alarm and was controlled in about 40 minutes. It involved an industrial area that had a styrofoam production area. ‘More or less P2 million,’ said FO2 Mark Anthony Yagonia, investigator of the case, on the estimated damage of the case. Authorities are looking into electrical wiring as the reason for the incident.”

We found that the incident was also reported by Hindustan Times on December 12, 2025.

According to the report, a woman in the Philippines was hailed as a hero after rescuing her two pet Pomeranians from a burning building in Mandaue City, Cebu. She calmly tossed the dogs to safety from a third-floor balcony before climbing down a firefighter’s ladder herself. Both dogs and the woman survived without injuries, earning widespread praise online.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
