A video is being widely shared on social media in which some people are seen pelting stones, resulting in a police officer getting injured.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows RSS workers pelting stones at police personnel over the ban on RSS. The text on the video reads, “After RSS was banned in Tamil Nadu, RSS and Bajrang Dal members pelted stones at the police. RSS claims to work in the interest of the nation.”
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “The government of Vijay in Tamil Nadu has banned the RSS, after which RSS and Bajrang Dal members allegedly pelted stones at the police in protest.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from 2025 and shows people pelting stones at the SP leader in Uttar Pradesh, who was going to meet the family of a girl who was murdered.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Dainik Bhaskar on April 22.
The video associated with the video suggested that FIR was filed against 46 people, including 2 SP MLAs in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. SP said workers pelted stones, many injured, including a former minister and SHO; 10 accused arrested.
Using this information, we found that the incident was also reported by The Times of India on April 24.
According to the report, an FIR was filed against 46 people, including two Samajwadi Party MLAs, in Ghazipur. Police said SP workers resorted to stone-pelting, leaving several people injured, including a former minister and the SHO; 10 accused have been arrested so far.
The incident was also reported by Zee News on April 27. The report had a screenshot of the viral video.
The report stated that following tensions in Ghazipur’s Kataria village after the death of a teenage girl, the administration imposed Section 163 across the district till April 30, banning protests, rallies, candle marches and political visits. The restrictions came after stone-pelting during a Samajwadi Party delegation’s visit left several people, including police personnel, injured. Authorities said the move was aimed at preventing unrest and stopping the spread of rumours related to the case.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
Has Tamil Nadu banned RSS?
We found no major reports suggesting RSS banned in Tamil Nadu. According to the report, in April 2023, the Supreme Court of India dismissed the Tamil Nadu government’s plea against RSS route marches and upheld the Madras High Court order allowing the rallies. The DMK government had cited law-and-order concerns and possible security threats. However, the court said democratic protests and marches could not be denied without strong reasons. Following the verdict, RSS was permitted to conduct marches at multiple locations across Tamil Nadu under police security.
