A video of a burning train on tracks has gone viral with the claim that the train caught fire on its way to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, carrying passengers to the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela.
Hindi text embedded in the video reads in English, “An accident happened in Allahabad on February 14, 2025, in which 300 people died. The entire train has been burned. It is today’s video.”
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “The viral video shows a train accident during Mahakumbha. “
The social media user, by mentioning Allahabad, insinuates that the accident to a train that was carrying devotees to Maha Kumbh Mela.
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Bangladesh in 2022.
On a Google reverse image search, we found a screenshot of the viral video shared by Dhaka Times on June 12, 2022. The report stated that a fire accident happened on the Intercity Parabat Express train travelling to Sylhet.
Primary investigation showed that a fire broke out in the power car of the Sylhet-bound Parabat train that left Dhaka on Saturday, burning down three coaches including the power car.
Another report by BSS News on June 11, 2022, stated that a fire broke out on the Parabat Express train in the Chowk Kabiraji area under the Kamalganj upazila of the district, halting rail communication on the Dhaka-Sylhet route.
The report quoted Shakhwat Hossain, master of Shamshernagar Railway Station. The quote said that the fire originated in a compartment and soon two compartments were engulfed by the fire.
We also found no reports of such incidents being reported during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Therefore, we conclude that the viral claim is false.
