Those sharing the video claim that the man in the video is a Muslim man who is beating his Hindu girlfriend abroad.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Friends, now not only in India but also in foreign countries, the daughters of secular Hindus are proudly getting beaten by their lover Abdul.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim was misleading. We found that the video was from Russia and there is no communal angle involved.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded on a website on July 12, 2021. The report associated with the video suggested that the young woman was being beaten by her family as she had met a guy from Ukraine on the Internet who fell in love and wanted to run away with him.
We further found the video was also uploaded by Life.ru. The report suggested that the woman in the video was a Muslim in Krasnodar in Russia, who was being beaten up by her relative as she wanted to run away with a Ukrainian man.
Another website had also published the same report.
Hence, we can ascertain that the video is from Russia and there is no communal angle involved.
