Recent reports have stated that attacks in Lebanon from Israel have resulted in the deaths of 492 people with over 1,600 people getting injured.
Against this backdrop, a video of a drone attack on an industrial complex has gone viral. Those sharing the video claim that it shows Hezbollah drones attacking oil refineries in the north of occupied Palestine.
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Hezbollah drones reached the oil refineries in the north of occupied Palestine. Israeli IDF failing to stop these deadly drones.”
SouthCheck found that the claim was false. We found that the viral video is old and is from the Russia-Ukraine war.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel, Voice of America, on July 22, 2024, titled, ‘Russian officials say Ukrainian drone attack damages oil refinery | VOA News’.
The caption read, “Officials in Russia’s Krasnodar region said Monday a Ukrainian drone attack damaged the Tuapse oil refinery, owned by Russian oil giant Rosneft, causing a fire that was later put out. The same plant was damaged by several Ukrainian attacks earlier this year.”
We found the video on another YouTube channel with the caption, “Ukrainian drones target an oil refinery in Tuapse, Krasnodar Krai and Morozovsk air base in Rostov.”
Media organisation CGTN Europe also shared the video on its Facebook page on July 22, 2024.
The caption read: “Russia’s Tuapse oil refinery, its biggest on the Black Sea, was damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack. Russia’s defence ministry said its air defence systems destroyed 75 drones launched overnight. The Tuapse plant, which can produce up to 240,000 barrels of oil per day, has been a target of several Ukrainian air attacks during the conflict.”
Hence, we confirm that the viral video is old and not related to the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
