On November 1, the INDIA bloc held a major rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to protest alleged electoral irregularities and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi led a ‘Chalo Dilli’ march from the Minto Road–Connaught Place junction toward the venue.

In the aftermath of the rally, a drone video showing an enormous crowd filling streets, highways, and overpasses began circulating on social media. The video was shared with the claim that it captured the unprecedented turnout at Rahul Gandhi’s rally in the capital.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Drone view of ramleela maidan.”

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video shows Argentina’s 2022 World Cup celebrations.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by an X account on December 21, 2022, with a caption that reads, “Buenos Aires celebration packed with ~5m people. The Argentina team bus couldn’t drive through, so they had to call in helicopters.”

Using this information, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the same video was also published by the YouTube channel on ESPN FC on December 20, 2022. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “4 MILLION people in the streets of Argentina.”

We further found that the incident was also shared by CBS News on December 21, 2022, with the caption that suggests, “An estimated crowd of four million jubilant soccer fans flooded the streets, and even highways, of Buenos Aires, as Argentina tried to hold a victory parade for its World Cup champions.”

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
