A video is being widely shared on social media in which people are seen offering namaz on the road. The claim accompanying the video suggests that it shows Muslims offering namaz on the streets of France.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Today, the #French decided that France would remain under Islamic rule by giving their votes to the leftist communists. What do you think?”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. We found that the viral video is from Russia.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded on YouTube on March 4, 2022, with the caption, “Eid al-Fitr 2022 at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.”

Taking the hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found the same video uploaded by the website Yeni Safak on May 4, 2022. The caption read, “Thousands of Muslims who could not fit into mosques in Moscow, the capital of Russia, performed the Eid al-Fitr prayers on the streets.”

Taking a hint, we geo-mapped the video and found the Moscow mosque Ulitsa Durova visible in the viral video, confirming that the video is from Russia.
