A social media user shared the video with a caption suggesting that a Christian was lynched during a Christmas celebration in Bangladesh.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Christians are being lynched by Islamist mobs in Bangladesh for celebrating Christmas. Minorities are under attack in Bangladesh.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is of a bomb blast in Bangladesh in which a Muslim leader was killed.
On a Google reverse image search, we found the screenshot of the video shared by Republic TV on December 24.
The screenshot shows the same man who was crying in the video. The video is shared with a title, ‘1 Killed As Bomb Blast Rocks Dhaka Amid Ongoing Unrest.’
According to the report, one person was killed when a crude bomb exploded in Dhaka’s Mogbazar area on Wednesday evening, sparking panic. Police said the device was likely thrown from a flyover and have begun reviewing CCTV footage to identify suspects. The blast came amid ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh following recent protests and violence.
The incident was also reported by Hindustan Times on December 25. According to the report, the man who died in the bomb blast was named Siam.
According to the report published by The Daily Star’s website on December 24, the deceased youth was named Siam Majumdar. Moreover, the report also suggests that the deceased’s father was Ali Akbar Majumdar.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
