Repolling was held on May 2 at 15 booths in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, two days before counting, after complaints of irregularities during the April 29 voting phase. The Election Commission ordered fresh polling in 11 booths of Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour. Voting began at 7 am under tight security, with counting scheduled for May 4.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which military personnel are seen beating a man wearing an ID card. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that CRPF personnel are arresting a TMC supporter for rigging the election.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “In Bengal, the CRPF has vented the lingering pain of the entire past five.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from February 2026 and is associated with the Bangladesh elections.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page of a Bangladeshi news channel, Maasranga TV, on February 12, with a caption that reads, “Youth party leader Shakil Molla arrested for trying to influence the vote counting in Dhaka-15 seat.”

Another Bangladeshi YouTube channel, Boisakhi TV news, on February 12. In the video, at around 19 seconds, we can see the same man being taken away by the police. The video is shared with a caption that reads, “Army arrests two people, including Mirpur 13 Ward Jubodal president”

Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was also reported by the Dhaka Mail on February 26. We can see that the website has an image of the same man being arrested by the army personnel as seen in the viral video. According to the news report, the Bangladesh army detained Jubo Dal leader Shakil Molla at Dhaka’s Monipur High School (Girls) polling centre after he allegedly entered posing as a polling agent. Officials grew suspicious when he entered a room where vote-counting preparations were underway. He reportedly failed to show valid documents and was taken into custody while the counting continued under tighter security.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
